the older i get the more i can understand why people back in the old fairytale days would just fuck off and be a hermit in the woods. just chilling out in the middle of nowhere and occasionally telling random heroes cryptic shit. living the fucking dream.
has anyone else noticed there’s a very specific way women interrupt each other in conversation that’s quite distinct from the way men interrupt women in conversation? like, women seem to interject a lot more– not as a silencing tactic, but to show their enthusiasm or agreement, cause they perceive a conversation as kind of collaborative, organic exercise. but i feel like men get really annoyed if you excitedly interject when they’re saying something (most specifically in a debate/discussion context) because they perceive conversation as something combative or competitive and see an interjection as a threat or a challenge. i’ve also noticed men dismiss women’s way of talking as being sort of incomprehensible and nonsensical because of this habit we have of seeming to butt in or finish each others sentences excitably.
Also I think most women’s way of speaking appears more “incomprehensible” and takes much longer (making it seem like they talk more) is because as a rule they always acknowledge the subjective aspect of their opinions rather than stating them as fact, which is what most men do. Takes almost twice as long to say “I feel like _ is maybe _” or “Idk if it’s just me but I’ve noticed _”. Instead of just, “It is _” like one is an objective authority. In trying to be nuanced and acknowledging things they don’t fully know, women end up being perceived as both less confident and less concise in their speech. Whereas men pronounce their observations like they’re onstage at Tedx.
Women should be able to go their entire lives without wearing makeup or heels if they don’t want to, without getting called slobby, or unprofessional, or “doesn’t care about her image”, or being fucking denied jobs for not wanting to wear heels or makeup at work every day. If men aren’t expected to cover their faces with makeup or wear incredibly uncomfortable shoes every day of their lives neither should I.
My grandma’s cabin, in what little daylight we get this time of year. I love how the sky looks when the sun is under the horizon, but dusk starts around 1pm, so you need to enjoy it while it’s there!
